September 11, 2022 Order of Service

“Making our way like rivers from places distant and near, we come together to give shape to a new spirituality.” (from the first Water Ceremony, authors Lucile Schuck Longview & Carolyn McDade)
Whether live in the Sanctuary or virtually, we begin the congregational year together with an Ingathering service for all ages with our new minister, Rev. Pat. We will celebrate our being together again with our annual water ceremony, one of our Unitarian Universalist traditions.
We will also have a special “Blessing of the Backpacks” to include a chalice token from UUCL for any who wish to carry it with them as they journey forth. “Blessing of the Backpacks” is a growing trend In the UU world. There will be a token for your backpacks, bags, briefcases, or other containers for the everyday things you carry with you in your lives.
Rev. Pat will reflect on how our lives are like a river, we are both the “changer and the changed” (taken from the title of Cris Williamson’s classic 1970 album.)
You are invited to bring…
  • A small container of water from a special place
  • A backpack, purse, tote, briefcase to receive a special blessing token for the journey
  • Favorite colored pencils or permanent markers

If you won’t be attending in person on Sunday or will be attending on Zoom, you’re invited to stop by the church (538 W Chestnut St) any time Wednesday noon through Saturday to share your waters in the outdoor bowl. If you would like to spend a few quiet moments in the sanctuary after sharing your waters, you may ring the doorbell between 1-3 on Friday Sept 9th, and a staff member will open the doors for you.’ You may email Rev. Pat at with a short description of where your water came from and its significance to you to be shared at Sunday’s Service.
