Sunday Worship Service: Education Funding; Creating a Just Future

November 7, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
This Sunday, Beth Reeves will describe how our current funding system for education in PA ensures that our children’s educational opportunities depend on their race, zip code, and family income. We have all heard about the so-called “achievement gap” between rich and poor students, or Black and White students. But what if it is really an “opportunity gap?” If we do want a just future for all our children, we may need to make some big changes in school funding. View the Order of Service here.
Beth Reeves is with Lancaster Friends Meeting (Quakers). She has coordinated their Healing Racism Working Group for the past 20 years and is currently one of the facilitators for their 18-month “Journey Toward Racial Justice”, during which 60 participants have gathered every two weeks to discuss systemic racism, racism within the Religious Society of Friends, and systemic racism in Lancaster County. For the past four years, Beth has worked with POWER Interfaith Lancaster County, a coalition of interfaith and multiracial congregations in the county, working on education justice, environmental racism, and criminal justice reform.

Join us every Sunday at 10am for our Sunday Worship Service. This is currently held on Zoom and open to all. Link to join: https://zoom.us/j/96623739683?pwd=UWFMQzF5OFR2V05idUJVSVNwYzBVdz09 Or join by phone: 301-715-8592 Meeting ID: 966 2373 9683 Password: 71717
