Sunday Worship Service: Hope in a Time of Injustice and Despair
The pandemic, racism, the climate crisis, overdose deaths, homicides, child abuse deaths, suicides, and the intentional erosion of democracy in the United States of America. We live in a time of historic traumas, stresses, and toxicity. Dr. Dan Jurman will acknowledge the pain, fear, and rage so many of us feel in these difficult times, and also wrestle with where we can find hope, and even opportunity for change, in times like these.
Dan is joining us fresh off of graduating with his Doctor of Ministry degree from Lancaster Theological Seminary this past spring, where his work focused on churches engaging differently with people living in poverty. Some of us know Dan as the former CEO of the Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County. He currently serves as an advocate for people whose circumstances have made them vulnerable and as a government reformer focused on justice, equity, inclusion, and the impacts of trauma.
He is the principal author of the Trauma-Informed PA Plan and the creator of HEAL PA, a statewide public-private coalition focused on implementing the plan. Some of their activities include training and education, supporting community coalitions, advocating for more behavioral health resources, and preventing radicalization by white supremacist and other violent extremist groups.
