Ways To Get Involved

There are many ways for you to get involved with congregant life. We have committees, teams, and tasks. If you have a skill that you would like to share with the church, or if you would like to learn a new one, we have something for you.

Stewardship Volunteers – Please help us protect our future at UUCL by volunteering to make a few phone calls to remind people to make their pledge for next year. We know that no one likes to ask people for money, and we’re not asking you to do that. We just need a few people willing to have a conversation with other UUs about sending in their pledge so that we know what our budget and programming is for next church year – no dollars need be mentioned. Please contact Darcy Pollock at dapollock@comcast.net. Many thanks.

Block Party/Mural Dedication Helpers – We are in need of helpers to facilitate the May 20th Block Party. If you can spare an hour or two it would be much appreciated. Please use this link to find a role that works for you! Thank you so much for assisting us in delivering this impactful event to the community that has held us for these 115 years.

Sunday Volunteers Welcome – Join the joy and love of Sunday morning gatherings. Below are the roles and the contacts if you would like to be part of making Sunday mornings happen and/or have questions (orientation provided): Coffee Hour Team (currently first Sundays) – office@uuclonline.org, Choir – eli@uuclonline.org, Tech Volunteer (sound, camera, Zoom, production) – eli@uuclonline.org, Worship Associate – minister@uuclonline.org

Memorial Service Hospitality Team Volunteers Needed – The Memorial Service Hospitality Team needs to expand its ranks. The need for a memorial service is unpredictable which means that we need a sizable pool of people to draw on when the need arises. Providing hospitality for a memorial service is one of the ways that we minister to one another. In times of loss and grief, the smallest things that we do for the bereaved take on great meaning. Please email Cindy Foster-Clark at cfosterclark@gmail.com to sign up and/or ask questions

There are a couple of ways to be of help.

1. Join the small circle of people that are behind the scenes figuring out the most effective ways we can assist with memorial services at UUCL. We meet periodically on Zoom.

2, Assist the day of the memorial service. Put your name on the list to be notified by email when a memorial service has been scheduled. Individuals then respond whether they are available to help the day of the service. We need greeters/ushers and folks to help with receptions. Ideally, we would have enough volunteers that there would be two shifts of people to help with receptions so no is tied up for too long.

Coffee Hour Volunteers – We are in need of someone to come in and assist with coffee hour or to contribute to sponsoring that very special social time in UU life. For more information contact office@uuclonline.org

The Financial Advisory Committee (FAC) is in urgent need of one or perhaps two new members. The FAC assists and advises the Board of Trustees (BoT) on budgetary and financial matters. It is charged with preparation of the annual church operating budget. The FAC also monitors the church’s financial situation throughout the year, and alerts the BoT to challenges and opportunities. FAC members do NOT need to have an accounting or finance background, but should have some familiarity with UUCL (or other churches), be able to work with others effectively, and not be afraid of a spreadsheet. Having a basic understanding of compensation and payroll would be great but this can be learned on the job. For further information or to volunteer, please contact John Snyder (FAC Chair, jsnbarb@comcast.net) or Jonas Kauffman (FAC Board liaison and UUCL Treasurer, jonaskauffman@comcast.net).

Worship Associates Needed In Person and on Zoom – You have a voice to lend to our worship services. We ask that anyone who wishes to be involved in worship service planning and participation to let us know. If you’d like to try out a new way of serving UUCL or to renew your previous work as a Worship Associate, please contact Kim Chappell at k69chappell@gmail.com or Rev. Pat at minister@uuclonline.org

The Personnel Committee has several openings for new members. The committee now meets monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of the month on Zoom. We are looking for members who want to work with and advocate for church staff. If you’re interested or have questions, email Leslie Laird Board liaison to the Personnel Committee at llaird366@gmail.com

The Tech Team is always looking for people. You don’t have to have a wealth of tech knowledge to assist. Contact Eli Sauls at Eli@uuclonline.org for more information. The tech team helps those who are unable for various reasons, to make it in person to our Sunday service. An hour or two per week could make a tremendous difference in the lives of your fellow congregants.
