In Person – Sanctuary & Livestreamed“We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.” (8th Principle adopted by UUCL)Over the year, Rev. Pat will provide a sermon series related to the 8th Principle (see background below). The first in the series will look to the roots of racism in the United States. Our current UUA Principles number up to 7 (https://www.uua.org/beliefs/what-we-believe/principles). In 2013, Paula Cole Jones, a UU management consultant and diversity strategist, in her work within UU circles, realized deeper work was needed to deal with racism and other oppressions at a systemic level in an accountable way. She worked with activist Bruce Pollack-Johnson and other UU anti-racist activists in her district (now a part of our UUA Central East Region) to create the 8th principle and encouraged other congregations and the UUA to adopt it. (https://www.8thprincipleuu.org/background) UUCL is one of the congregations who have adopted this principle.
