Sunday Worship Service: Rediscovering Thomas Jefferson (8th Principle Series)-Telling

Several people have asked Rev. Pat to speak about some of the historical figures named in our stained glass windows. Twenty-four years ago, Thomas Jefferson was the sermon subject won at that year’s Service Auction at the Kitty Hawk UU congregation where Rev. Pat served. At the time the UUA was divided into geographic districts (now regions) and the Outer Banks was in the Thomas Jefferson District. Having the name of a slaveholder who wasn’t a Unitarian became quite controversial. In researching the subject for the sermon, Rev. Pat learned what a complicated, perplexing man Jefferson was to understand. Not only in our time but by society in his own time as well.
