Sunday Worship Service: Norbert Capek, The Sharps, & The Chalice (Annual Flower Ceremony)

This Sunday we’ll celebrate the Annual Flower Ceremony originally created in 1923 by the Unitarian minister Norbert Capek of Prague, Czechoslovakia; brought to the United States by his widow, the Rev. Mája Čapek. In this ceremony, everyone in the congregation brings a flower and places their flower in the shared vases. Each person is invited to bring home a different flower than the one they brought. It is a ceremony to celebrate the beauty in uniqueness, diversity and shared community. Linda will also share the connections between the refugee rescue work of Waitsill and Martha Sharp, Capek and our UU chalice symbol.
