AMRED ROSE SANGHA 6:00 PMSUNDAY MORNING SERVICE:Educating White Kids: A Race-Conscious Conversation for Everyone with Dr. Todd Mealy 10:00 am – 11:00 am
The framework of colorblindness has long existed as the default in American schools. At majority-white schools institutional structures make learning for students of color challenging while emboldening dominant culture notions of meritocracy and color-silence. Todd Mealy will explore racial histories and a race-blind approach to teaching and learning by challenging educators (and parents) to become advocates of race-conscious instruction. The holder of a Ph.D. in American Studies from Pennsylvania State University, Todd Mealy has authored seven books and is a regular contributor for the Pennsylvania Heritage. His publications focus on 19th and 20th-century civil rights history, the intersection of sports and race, and critical race studies. His twenty-year career as an educator includes tenures at J.P. McCaskey and Penn Manor High Schools, and as adjunct professor in History at Dickinson College. He is the founder of the Equity Institute for Race-Conscious Pedagogy, a research institute that gives educators tools to center race in cross-disciplinary curricula.
Worship Associate Bradden Weaver is a Community Education instructor for IU13 and a high school Social Studies teacher. A Unitarian Universalist for over 30 years, Brad serves on UUCL’s Board of Trustees and Racial Justice and Healing team.Link to join: https://zoom.us/j/96623739683?pwd=UWFMQzF5OFR2V05idUJVSVNwYzBVdz09 Or join by phone: 301-715-8592Meeting ID:966 2373 9683Password: 71717

Children’s Faith Development
UU Week coming up! From August 17-23, we have a special week of at-home and Zoom activities planned for elementary age kids (and older/younger siblings). Note the date change from last week’s email. We are busy putting together a special box of materials, conversation prompts, stories, and more, and will have activities to do every day. Registered families with children pre-K through 5th grade will receive an email with information on how to pick up the box this coming Friday, August 14.
If your family is not registered in the program, we may not have your information. If you have not yet received the previous mailed packet and would like to sign up for our next one, contact Lenore ASAP.
Anti-racism conversations with kids: Rescheduled: Lenore Bajare-Dukes and Michele Capobianco will hold space on Zoom for parents and other caregivers of children to discuss how your family has (or has not yet) been talking about racism, police violence, and the latest protests with your kids. Look for an email to registered parents with date and joining information; email Lenore if you would like to join and are not registered!
Public Witness Action for Racial Justice and Healing
Public Witness Action for Racial Justice and Healing
A public witness action for racial justice and healing will take place in front of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster (538 W. Chestnut Street) on   Friday, August 21 from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
These actions serve as a silent moral witness (holding signs) to support equal justice for all. The public is cordially invited to join in and stand with members from UUCL and other Lancaster faith communities. Social distancing will be maintained and mask wearing is required.  Participants are encouraged to bring a sign expressing a call for racial justice, anti-racism, and progressive social change.

From Your Board of Trustees
The Board would like to thank Rev Barbara for all of the years of service, wisdom, mentoring, and just plain hard work that she has done to bring our church to the place where we are now. It’s hard to remember where we were when she arrived, but we are certainly so much better for her having been here. Many thanks to Rev Barbara and good wishes to her in her next challenge. Muncie is lucky.
Church Life & Announcements
Calling All UUCL Leaders and Future LeadersCentral East Regional Leadership TrainingLeading Change in Changing TimesSaturday August 22, 2020T ime: Noon to 3:00 pmFree WebinarThe Leadership Development Committee encourages you to sign up for this Central East Region training presented by the Rev. Sunshine Wolfe and the Rev. Renee Ruchotzke on a topic that is pertinent for these times of pandemics and racial strife. This is a free webinar for which you can sign up online at the CER website. This training is appropriate for our current leaders from the BOT, Leaders’ Circle and Committee Chairs. This is also a great opportunity for individuals who are considering future leadership positions in the Church. Sign-up on the website by August 16, 2020.
Stay Connected with Realm!  Most of the congregation has been contacted regarding this church online community. This is a great way to stay connected to members of UUCL, especially those with whom you serve on committees or in small groups. While most gave permission to be listed in the online directory, only 116 people created log-ins to access the directory and edit their own information. All members of UUCL who have a valid email address received an invitation to create a log-in. Please let Bev Geib know if you need a new email invitation to create yours! She can be reached at  financialmanager@uuclonline.org . Hope to connect with you in Realm!
