SUNDAY SERVICE: Heeding the Call: Finding Purpose in Troubled Times

This week, guest worship leader Lenore Bajare-Dukes, who serves as our Director of Lifespan Faith Development, will bring her years of experience working in the peacebuilding field to listen deeply to the dynamics emerging in the United States around this election season. As we face deep challenges to democracy including white supremacist violence and support for totalitarianism, we practice listening deeply to the voice within that helps us discern how and when to take action.

Please note that there will be no children’s worship this week. Next week, we invite children and their families to join a special exploration of voting at 11:30AM, with visitors from our neighbors at UU Berks!

As a reminder, you’re invited to bring your home chalice to light during our service!

So, start thinking about what costume YOU will wear … and make it one in which you can dance!

Church Life & Announcements
Samhain Celebration

The wheel of the year has turned and the season of Samhain is before us.

In years past, we have gathered in person. This year, our gathering will be on Zoom. We celebrate the thinning of the veil between our world and the world of spirit. We celebrate our beloved dead. We celebrate our sheroes and heroic figures.

We will gather on Saturday, 31 October 2020 from 7 – 8:30 pm in our sacred space on Zoom. We will present a slideshow of our beloved dead, a link will be forthcoming for sharing these pictures.

If you do not have or do not wish to share photos, sharing a first name would be another way to honor a person.
The slideshow created from these photos will be used for both Samhain 2020 and 1 November 2020 Worship service, please consider this when you submit pictures.

and Gratitude –

In the last few weeks, members and friends have engaged in all kinds of activities to encourage folks to vote. We have:

  • Partnered with Vote Forward by writing 1000 letters to be mailed 10/17. Forty five folks engaged
  • Partnered with Moms Rising to write/mail 300 postcards. Five folks engaged.
  • Partnered with Lancaster Votes by providing/staffing voter registration tables. Door-to-door with the Michele family.
  • Partnered with CASA thru UU the Vote for “text banking”. Two folks engaged. Fun!

There are more opportunities for each and everyone of us. Go to https://uujusticepa.org. Steady energy…keep moving forward. Feel the Progress!

GOTV phone bank for New American Citizens

Mon Oct 26, 2020 – Mon Nov 2, 2020

Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition, PICC is the only organization in Pennsylvania authorized to register New Americans to vote at their citizenship ceremonies. Before every election, these new Americans are called to make sure they have the information they need to vote for the first time. Please help to mobilize New Americans to the polls this year by volunteering at one or more of the virtual GOTV phone banks.

You can sign up for “GOTV phone bank” by Clicking here

Unpaid Volunteer Opportunities Galore!

We are looking for a task force to examine the church phone system and research alternatives. No face-to-face meetings necessary. UUCL pays several thousand per year to own the current system.

We are also looking for people interested in researching how to move UUCL to Google’s Gsuite. This research should be extra fun, because it’s so Googly! And if you want to learn more about Google Docs and all that stuff for your own self, why not learn it while doing research for the church?
Qualifications required for either task force: The willingness to respond with “yes, I’m willing to attend the first meeting.”

Email itgroup to get sucked in to more than you bargained for.

It’s hard to believe but we are through the first quarter of our fiscal year! Most of you should have received your pledge statement via email this week. For those who do not have email, they will be mailed. This is a statement of your Financial Commitment pledge progress only. It does not include other contributions you may have made to UUCL. If you have any questions about your statement, please contact Bev Geib in the church office, ext. 206. Thank you for your continued support!
